Arsenal given injury boost ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli could be available for the clash against Nottingham Forest at the weekend as club doctor Gary O’Driscoll gave an update on the Brazilian.

Martinelli was taken off in the opening 20 minutes of the Gunners’ 3-0 loss against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday after being on the end of a challenge from Moises Caicedo. He was replaced by Leandro Trossard and was spotted with a protective boot on the bench during the game.

Following the match, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed that the player will undergo a scan this week to determine the extent of any damage . "We don’t know. He’s in a boot at the moment,” he said, via football.london .

“He was very uncomfortable, and he could not carry on playing. We need to scan him and see the extent of that injury."

But O’Driscoll has eased worries of Arsenal fans, by giving a more optimistic update, which hints that he could be back in time to face Forest. “Sore. Terrible foul, disgraceful foul,” he said. “But yeah, he’s a bit sore but he should be okay.”

Arsenal are though set to be without Oleksandr Zinchenko, who is reported to be out for the remainder of the season with a calf injury. He will be joined on the sidelines by central defender William Saliba who has a back injury and is also set to miss the final games of the campaign.

Longer term absentees Takehiro Tomiyasu and Mohamed Elneny will also be unavailable for the clash against Forest.

It’s a game which could have a big impact on both ends of the table. Arsenal’s loss against Brighton means that if Forest win this weekend, the Premier League title will be won by Man City. A win would also pretty much secure Forest’s place in the league for another season.
