Arsenal have been given hope in signing Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on loan in the remaining days of the January transfer window.
The Gunners were reportedly keen on landing the Brazilian this month to help bolster Mikel Arteta’s midfield ranks, but talks are said to have collapsed over the switch to the Emirates.
It has meant that the Spaniard enters the final few days of the transfer market without filling key positions.
Not only was the midfield said to be a priority this January, but a push for a striker in Dusan Vlahovic has also failed as he made the move to Juventus.
However, there is some hope yet of managing to get a deal over the line with Arthur, according to reports.
Fabrizio Romano has said that Juventus are keen on pushing through an immediate move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.
Zakaria, 25, is out of contract at the end of the season and despite the reports linking Arsenal with him, they are yet to make a move to sign him.
As for the Bianconeri, Romano claims they have made an offer of €7million (£5.8million) to sign the midfielder before the window closes.
This would free up space for the Serie A club to let one of their own players leave in the coming days, with the transfer guru saying that one of Arthur or Rodrigo Bentancur are free to leave as things stand.
It could be the breakthrough that Arteta needs in what seems to have been an unforgiving transfer window.
Clearly depth of squad is an issue, but so too is signing the right players with enough quality.
Whether it allows for the Brazilian to make the move to the Emirates or not remains to be seen, but it could be the indicator of the beginning of a whirlwind final few days in the transfer window for the Gunners.
