Arsenal give fans first glimpse of Thomas Partey's new number 18 shirt after £45m transfer

Arsenal have given supporters a first glimpse of Thomas Partey's shirt, complete with his new squad number.

The Gunners sealed the signing of the Ghana international from Atletico Madrid on deadline day, after agreeing to activate his £45million release clause.

Partey completed his routine medical checks in Madrid before travelling to London to put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract at the Emirates.

Speaking after the signing was confirmed, Arteta told the official Arsenal website: "We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad.

Why Arsenal waited so long to pay Thomas Partey's release clause

"He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.

"We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game.

"He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”

Partey has been given the number 18 shirt, previously worn by defender Nacho Monreal, who left Arsenal to join Real Sociedad at the beginning of last season.

Prior to Monreal, previous owners include Sebastien Squillaci, Mikael Silvestre, Pascal Cygan and Giles Grimandi.

And ahead of his official photoshoot with the club photographer, Arsenal posted a picture of his shirt for sale in the club store, complete with his new squad number.

Partey thanked Atletico Madrid supporters in a post on social media, after his move to Arsenal was confirmed.

"Dear Atletico fans, today I only have words of gratitude with you," Partey wrote on his Instagram account.

"For several years now, Atlético de Madrid has been my home and a part of this family will always be with me.

"I want to thank the club for the trust placed in me from day one, but above all, I want to thank you, this wonderful hobby that I accepted from the first moment and that has shown that it is both in good shape and in bad times and you never truly stop believing.

"Atletico de Madrid is not just a club, it is a family. Thank you."
