Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes Reiss Nelson may get opportunities under Mikel Arteta before the season draws to a close.
The 21-year-old was tipped for a loan exit from the club during the January transfer window to provide more regular first-team opportunities but such a move did not materialise.
Nelson will, therefore, remain on the fringes of Arsenal's first-team squad for the remainder of the season but injuries could hand him a chance.
That's the view of Campbell, who believes Nelson needs to be ready to grab his chance with both hands if it emerges.
“Reiss Nelson is still in and around the squad and we’ve seen injuries happen and players having to come in and hit the ground running," he told Football Insider.
“He went on loan last season and done okay, so he’s had a long spell of first-team football. But I think he needs more football because he’s not really getting a lot of football at Arsenal.”
“It was an interesting one [loan speculation] but it hasn’t quite happened for him.”
Arsenal have seen a number of players make an impression when given opportunities due to injuries in the past few years, including Bukayo Saka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Emiliano Martinez.
The likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe have also caught the eye after making the most of their chances, showing that there is a precedent in the squad.
Nelson's opportunities this term largely came in the Europa League group stages, where he scored one goal and registered an assist in four appearances.
