Arsenal fined £20,000 for incident in Man City fixture

Arsenal have accepted a Football Association charge of failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during their New Year's Day defeat to Manchester City.

Arsenal were fined for allegedly breaching the FA rule E20.1, which refers to a club ensuring "its directors, players, officials, employees, servants, representatives, spectators and all personal purporting to be its supporters or followers, conduct themselves in an orderly fashion."

The incident in question was in the 59th minute, when defender Gabriel was sent off for a second yellow card after a foul on Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal, who had just been angered by the decision to award City a penalty minutes earlier, surrounded referee Stuart Atwell to protest the decision.

However, the red card stood, and City went on to use their man advantage to secure a late win thanks to Rodri's injury-time winner.

Now, Arsenal have admitted the charge and accepted the standard penalty of a £20,000 fine.

And FA statement said: "Arsenal FC has been fined £20,000 after admitting a charge for a breach of FA rule E20.1 and accepting the standard penalty.

"The club failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during the 59th minute of its Premier League fixture against Manchester City on Saturday [01/01/22]."
