Arsenal 'fighting' to secure next summer transfer after Gabriel Jesus amid player demand

Arsenal are showing no signs of resting in the summer transfer window despite announcing the signing of Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus on Monday. Attention is now set to switch to bolstering the defence.

Jesus became the Gunners' fourth signing of the summer, following Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner into the Emirates. Mikel Arteta was always likely to be busy ahead of the 2022-23 campaign as he looks to add much-needed depth to his squad with European football back on the horizon.

A fee of around £45 million has reportedly been paid for Jesus, who is set to become the club's leading man following the departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. After putting pen to paper in north London, the 25-year-old expressed his excitement about the move.

"We spoke a couple of times about the club, the players, the project and the future," Jesus said in an interview with the club's official website. "I believe 100 per cent in Mikel. I had a very good time with him before. He's a very good guy and a very good coach as well.

"He helped me a lot [at Manchester City]. We would always stick together after the training sessions and do some finishing or something. He's a very intelligent guy and was an amazing player, so if he knows something, he can teach me or the young players."

Attention is now set to turn to the Arsenal defence. Versatile Ajax ace Lisandro Martinez has been on the radar throughout the summer, and according to Fabrizio Romano, they remain in the hunt. The journalist, however, also reported that Manchester United and Erik Ten Hag have made the Argentinian their top priority.

Writing on Twitter, Romano said: "Lisandro Martínez, back in Holland today - he's been very clear with Ajax telling the club that he only wants to leave to try his first Premier League experience. Manchester United are pushing as ten Hag wants Lisandro as a priority - Arsenal, still there fighting."
