Things are not exactly going to plan for Mesut Ozil since his move to Fenerbahce.
After ending his seven and a half year stay with Arsenal the German international made his dream move to the club he supported as a boy.
“I am very excited because I was always a fan of Fenerbahce. My has dream come true for me,” he said after the move was confirmed.
“That’s why I'm very excited to wear the jersey. I hope I will be successful with my teammates. I hope everything will be fine. I wish the best.
“God bless them (the fans). They always support it. We already know how big we are as a Fenerbahce community.
“They showed it again. I am so happy. I hope I can thank them on the pitch. I wish the best.”
So far though it is turning into more of a nightmare.
Since his arrival Fener have lost three out of the six matches he has been involved in, been knocked out of the Turkish Cup and lost crucial ground to Galatasaray and Besiktas in the title race.
Ozil himself is still yet to register a goal or an assist.
Fener were expected to get their Turkish Super Lig challenge back on course on Thursday night when they took on Antalyaspor where Ozil's former club and international teammate Lukas Podolski currently plies his trade.
However, the Sari Lacivetler found themselves a goal down within the space of 12 minutes when Fredy intercepted a Marcel Tisserand ball out from the back to put the visitors in front.
Right on the stroke of half time though Ozil found himself with the chance to draw the game level after the Antalyaspor goalscorer misplaced a pass on the edge of his own box to find the German unmarked with more or less the whole goal to aim at.
The 32-year-old had just been nutmegged moments before so the stage seemed set for him to achieve some personal revenge while also getting his team back on terms.
However, instead of shooting first time Ozil elected to control the ball. A poor first touch meant that he then had to take two more by which point he had been closed down and was forced to fire a low shot past the post.
Things then went from bad to worse for the former Arsenal number 10 in the second half as he was stretchered off the pitch with what looked like a nasty ankle injury.
It is as of yet unclear how severe the problem is or when he will be fit again to play for Fenerbahce.
In his absence though his teammates were able to draw the game level with former West Ham and Everton striker Enner Valencia scoring a worldie seven minutes from time.
A dramatic finale then saw Fener win a penalty, only to have it overturned by VAR in the dying moments of the match.
There was still time after that for Podolski to squander a great chance to win the game for Antalyaspor, but the German forward was wasteful.
The result means that Fenerbahce now sit in third, two points behind Super Lig leaders Galtasaray and second place Besiktas with the latter having a game in hand.
