Arsenal will be disappointed with the final result after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea despite showing significant improvements - but Graeme Souness' verdict will leave fans scratching their heads.
The Gunners controlled the tempo throughout the majority of the game and were on the front foot, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring in the first half to give the hosts the lead.
However, two late goals from Jorginho and Tammy Abraham turned the result on it's head and left Mikel Arteta still seeking his first victory in charge of the club.
While Arsenal were much improved in the performance, showing evidence of Arteta's impact early on, Souness believes that the Gunners were second best throughout.
“I thought they deserved that and for the largest part, Arsenal played second fiddle. Tammy is allowed to turn in midfield, which is a mistake, and then he shows great feet," he told Sky Sports.
He didn’t have a lot to feed on today but he messed the centre-halves around, backed into them, and had a lovely touch. The defender should have been tighter but give credit to the centre-forward.”
Arsenal will also feel aggrieved by the decision not to send Jorginho off for a deliberate foul on Matteo Guendouzi on the halfway line, when the Chelsea man was already booked, but Souness once again took an opposing stance.
“Not at all. Guendouzi throws himself to ground, why does he throw himself down like that with minimal contact? I hate to see that. For me, that’s not a second yellow card, it’s a yellow card for the ones waving their hands at the referee.”
