Arsenal fans will love what Sokratis has said about Lacazette after Aubameyang's red card

Sokratis has insisted that Alexandre Lacazette has what it takes to lift Arsenal during Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's three-match ban.

The Gabon international will miss the Gunners' matches against Sheffield United, Chelsea and Bournemouth in the FA Cup which will put more focus on the Frenchman's exploits in front of goal.

Lacazette has gone six games without a goal - his last came against Standard Liege in the Europa League - and missed a golden opportunity to hand Arsenal the lead late on at Selhurst Park.

Despite this, Sokratis has ensured that the 28-year-old remains sharp in training and offers more than just goals for the side.

Mikel Arteta: We switched off for the goal

"Of course (Lacazette scores in training), he’s a machine. A goal machine," the Greek centre-back said after the draw with Crystal Palace.

"He’s a very good player. In some games, from the outside, you can’t see what he can do. Or maybe he is a little bit struggling.

"But we have (to) see also how the game is and which guy he has behind him. I think he is a very good player, we are with him every time, he is with us and we will show altogether in the future a lot of things."

Lacazette has started all five games under Mikel Arteta and despite failing to get on the scoresheet, his work in build up and out of possession have been key for the Spaniard.

Deeper on the pitch, he's linked play well but has also been key to Arsenal's high press which was most evident in the victory over Manchester United on New Years' Day.

Constantly battling with two centre-backs, Sokratis feels this also has an impact on the Frenchman's game.

"Yes, but it is very difficult of course because Laca today (against Palace) was against two players every time and when you play the ball to him it’s very difficult to do the first control and the second because all the other defenders they are strong," he added.

"I think Laca is coming better and better. He’s very important, a massively important player for us. Altogether we have to improve, to step up and to show that the year is not finished and that we have to fight for this.

"Auba is very important, a very important player for us. He’s the captain of the team. But now is the time that also the other players step up and show quality, they show mentality and they help the team and also the manager to do his work."
