2019 has been a year to forget so far for Rob Holding, but the defender is certainly making up for lost time.
The 23-year-old has been out since the start of December with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but resumed light training towards the end of the 2018/19 season.
It's reported that Holding could feature in one of Arsenal's remaining pre-season friendly fixtures, and with that the defender is working hard on the training ground to prove to Unai Emery that he's ready.
While fitness work and defending are the key areas that Holding is wanting to showcase, he also showed that he has a trick or two up his sleeve.
In a video posted on Arsenal's Twitter account, Holding drop-kicked the ball from the corner flag and managed to find the back of the net.
It may have been a daft moment in pre-season training, but it could be a big season ahead for Rob Holding.
It's been suggested that the 23-year-old could be a potential successor to Laurent Koscielny as Arsenal skipper, and Unai Emery said that he's certainly a contender to be one of the five leaders selected in the Gunners squad.
Emery said: "I want one English player in these five captains.
"Last year [Granit] Xhaka, Mesut [Ozil] and Nacho [Monreal] were working as captains. But after Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech left - and possibly Laurent Koscielny - I will want more.
"An English player who grew up in our academy can understand the English spirit and Arsenal values. These are the qualities and more [we want]."
He added: "We lost some players with big experience and a long time in England and Arsenal like Cech and Ramsey. We lost Koscielny too.
"They started one day being captain when they were young. We have young players with experience, players starting for the first time to be considered as captains.
"If we decide on a player they have the capacity and deserve to have the opportunity to be captain."
