Arsenal fans will love what Michael Owen has said about Manchester United clash

Arsenal host Manchester United on New Year's Day in a mouth-watering Premier League clash and it has led to predictions aplenty.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men ended 2019 in the right manner thanks to wins over Newcastle United and Burnley in the space of three days, but the Gunners instead drew at Bournemouth and lost to Chelsea.

Mikel Arteta is still waiting for his first taste of victory since landing the permanent head coaching role at the Gunners and former United striker Michael Owen is predicting that to happen on New Year's Day.

The Gunners are down in 12th ahead of the fixture, while Solskjaer's side have climbed the table and sit fifth, just four points off fourth-placed Chelsea.

Premier League match preview: Arsenal v Manchester United

But Owen believes that Arsenal will close the gap between themselves and United to four points, while he is also backing both teams to score.

"Arsenal have yet to win under their new manager, although I think that will change when Manchester United are the visitors to the Emirates on New Year’s Day," Owen explained in his BetVictor blog.

"The Gunners bossed the first 45 minutes against Chelsea on Sunday and, although they faded in the second half, I expect them to build on their improved display against a United side who picked up three points and a rare clean sheet – their first on their travels in the league since February – at Turf Moor on Saturday.

"This is a fixture that rarely disappoints, and I think the hosts will keep the points."

Former Arsenal star and turned Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas is predicting a 3-2 victory for the Gunners, while Liverpool great and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson claims the contest will end in a 2-2 draw. One thing is almost certain, we should expect goals galore.
