Arsenal fans will love what Mesut Ozil said about Tottenham in response to transfer question

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has taken a swipe at north London rivals Tottenham, joking that he would only join them if he doesn't want to win a trophy.

The former Germany international joined Arsenal in 2013 and has helped the Gunners to win four FA Cups during his time at the Emirates.

In the same period, Tottenham have failed to pick up any silverware, falling short in the Premier League title race on several occasions and losing in the Champions League final in 2018/19.

Spurs also reached several FA Cup semi-finals and the League Cup final in 2014/15, but were beaten by Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.

And Ozil, who was answering supporters' questions in a Twitter Q&A, decided to troll the Gunners' bitter north London rivals.

One fan asked: "If you had a choice would you rather play for Tottenham or retire?"

To which Ozil replied : "If I don’t want to win a cup, I should go there. #YaGunnersYa #AskMesut," along with a winking face emoji.

In a separate question, Ozil confirmed that he is fit and available for selection for Arsenal's first Premier League game of the season against Fulham.

The former Real Madrid midfielder has not played for the club since March 7, the final Premier League game before lockdown.

Reports have claimed the German could leave the club this summer, with his future at the Emirates seemingly in doubt.

However, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has vowed to wipe the slate clean for everyone ahead of the new season, meaning Ozil could be handed the chance to resurrect his Gunners career.

One supporter asked: "Hey man, hope you doing well, are you fit to be played against Fulham?"

In response, Ozil said : "I’m fit & ready and doing my best. Unfortunately it’s not in my hands to decide about the squad on the weekend. We will see!"
