Arsenal secured a crucial 2-0 win at home to Newcastle United on Monday evening to move two points clear of Tottenham Hotspur and into third place.
The Gunners were once ten points adrift of Spurs this season as the latter battled for the Premier League title.
But Spurs’ 2-1 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday allowed Arsenal the chance to leapfrog their rivals.
Arsenal duly did that on Monday Night Football by easing past Newcastle thanks to goals from Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette.
But one player who also shone was Mesut Ozil as he landed the Sky Sports’ Man of the Match award for his performance.
When the German picked up his award post-game he couldn’t help but talk about the fact that Arsenal had jumped above rivals Spurs and into third. Not only did Ozil discuss its importance, he also provided a sneaky laugh live on TV which Arsenal fans will love.
“Of course we are happy we are in front of Tottenham because you know,” Ozil said before laughing to himself as the video below shows.
“Our aim is to get to the top four. If we play like today, and we want to win, we can aim for the top four. We wanted to take the three points and the whole team are really happy.”
