Arsenal fans will love what Mesut Ozil has said about his future under Mikel Arteta

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has said that he will be staying at the Emirates Stadium for the foreseeable future following the appointment of Mikel Arteta as head coach.

Ozil's future at the club looked to be in doubt when he was left out of the squad by former boss Unai Emery for the early part of the season. The German made just one Premier League appearance between the start of the season and November, making the bench just twice more in that period.

The midfielder, who has one-and-a-half-years remaining on his Arsenal contract, had been linked with a January move to Turkish side Fenerbahce, but he has put a stop to any rumours linking him with a move away from the club

“I am very pleased with my contract that will continue here this year and the year after," he said, as reported by The Mirror.

“I can't tell you what the future will bring, I'm excited about the future, but I don't know what's going to happen.”

Ozil has made 247 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal since arriving from Real Madrid in 2013, scoring 32 goals and providing 57 assists.

He has started every league game under Mikel Arteta, and has spoken of his positivity under the new head coach.

“I had a hard time, especially with the previous coach Unai Emery, but now everything has changed, and I am very happy with everything. I play regularly and everything goes well," he said.

“Arteta, as I said in my previous interviews, it was surprising to many people that he adopted the club in such a short time. He's doing a good job. He's hungry for success."
