Arsenal legend Martin Keown has reacted to his former side's FA Community Shield victory over Liverpool on Saturday by heaping praise on Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners beat Jurgen Klopp's men on penalties at Wembley to lift the curtain-raiser trophy and add it to their FA Cup final win over Chelsea at the end of last season.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a superb goal during the contest, with Takumi Minamino equalising for Liverpool.
Arsenal held their nerve late on and took the match to penalties despite having less shots, attempts on target and possession.
But Keown has credited Arteta for the way the Gunners set up against Liverpool and how they looked so 'well-drilled'. The former defender feels that the Spaniard has Arsenal in the best place ahead of the 2020/21 season.
"Say what you want about the Community Shield — whether you think it is a trophy or a glorified friendly — but the act of securing silverware is never a bad habit to have," Keown said in his MailOnline column.
"The players had only a handful of training sessions together in the build-up, but we saw a well coached side cause Jurgen Klopp’s team problems.
"You could see the philosophy behind the opening goal as Arsenal went from back to front in less than 20 seconds.
"There was a real identity to this performance under Arteta. His back three was sturdy and you wonder whether that is the system he is ready to stand by. This was a good day out for Arteta's Arsenal."
