Arsenal fans will love what Gabriel Martinelli said to David Luiz after the West Ham game

Gabriel Martinelli marked his first Premier League start with a goal in Arsenal's 3-1 win over West Ham on Monday night.

The Brazilian was handed his full debut by interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg, and repaid the faith by scoring a crucial equaliser in the second half.

Arsenal had trailed at half-time to an Angelo Ogbonna header, but Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored in the space of nine minutes to turn the game on its head and seal the Gunners' first victory in all competitions since October.

At 18 years and 174 days old, Martinelli's goal made him the youngest ever Arsenal player to score on their first league start, and the teenager was praised by Ljungberg after the game.

"He is a fantastic player," he said in his post-match press conference .

"Very, very young but he has the energy about him. He goes and goes.

"No fear, just keeps going. It is a pleasure to see him there on the pitch and for him to get the success that he did today bring a smile to your face."

Ljungberg also lauded his players for their second half performance.

"The players did amazing. We had a game plan, we wanted to move the ball a lot. The first half we were slow, we were lethargic. We didn't move, we didn't run. That in my opinion comes from players who have low confidence and don't do it at the speed you need to.

"It's been hard on the players but I thought 'give it a go in the second half.' And they did that. It was amazing to see. We saw West Ham getting a bit tired around the 60th minute and we sliced them open. We played some really good football in my opinion, that's how we want to play.

"Of course we won't get carried away. We have a lot of work to do on things but all credit to the players for that they did."

Martinelli took to social media after the game to share a video from Arsenal's official Instagram account.

The clip showed the striker walking towards the dressing room after the final whistle, where he was embraced by David Luiz en route. Calum Chambers was also seen walking in with the forward.

On his reshared video, Martinelli posted the caption: 'Obrigado por tudo cabelao,' which roughly translates from Portuguese to 'thank you for everything big hair.'

Arsenal are next in action on Thursday night against Standard Liege, where they will look to finally secure qualification from their Europa League group.

After that, the Gunners welcome champions Manchester City to the Emirates on Sunday - a game Martinelli looks set to play a key part in after his impressive performance against West Ham.
