Arsenal fans will love what Gabriel Martinelli has said about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli has delivered a positive update as he looks to kick on after his return from injury, citing a source of inspiration.

Martinelli's knee injury kept him out until December, missing around 30 games in what was a devastating injury blow for the 19-year-old.

But he is now back in action, and while, as a youngster, he is spending much of his time on the bench, making cameos here and there, Arsenal fans can look forward to the youngster's development in an Arsenal shirt now that he is over the injury.

"I’m feeling very good. I don’t feel any more pain on my knee and this is the most important thing. I’m ready (to play) when Mikel needs me," Martinelli told ESPN.

The young forward also spoke about how he looks up to senior star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

"I’m working very hard (to start) of course Auba plays in my position but I look to him every day, in every training, to learn as much as I can from him, he’s also a great guy off the pitch," he added.

"I want to follow into Aubameyang’s footsteps, he’s a captain, he wears the No14 shirt, that is a symbol for this club and of course, I hope to be very successful at Arsenal."

That vision to become a Gunners legacy will be music to the ears of fans, who are already excited about Martinelli's future.

Martinelli joined Arsenal in 2019 from Ituano on a deal worth around £6million, and he could yet prove to be a real bargain, already looking as though he can become a first-team regular at some point.

Still just 19, the Brazilian has made five appearances so far in the Premier League since his return from injury at the back end of last year, starting three games and making two appearances from the bench.
