Freddie Ljungberg insists that a top four finish is still "100 per cent achievable" for Arsenal this season after their 2-2 draw with Norwich City this afternoon (Sunday).
The Gunners' first game since Unai Emery was sacked by the club finished in a draw at Carrow Road, with Arsenal twice coming from behind to earn a point in Ljungberg's first game as interim head coach.
And the Swede spoke of his pride at managing the Gunners for the first time, after taking charge of training on Friday following the confirmation of Emery's departure as he prepared the team for the Premier League clash against the Canaries.
“I was proud but I think we started well and I expected us to take the lead," Ljungberg said, speaking in his post-match press conference as he reflected on the game.
“It’s easy to see what we have to work on.
“I’m extremely proud of the players for coming back twice. The end of the game was too open for my liking.
“We have a problem on the transition and I want to fix that.
“I hope the club knows what I can and can’t do. I’m very honoured they have trusted me to do this.”
But Ljungberg said he was happy with some aspects of the performance in Norfolk, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netting both goals for the Gunners, including a retaken penalty.
And Ljungberg believes Arsenal will get better as he assessed the battle for the top four, with the Gunners currently seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
"What I saw in the first 30 minutes was good," he said.
“When we went down the players’ heads didn’t drop but they wanted to sort it out and that is good.
“The top four is 100% achievable."
