Alan Shearer has described former Arsenal captain Tony Adams as the best defender he played against in English football.
The Arsenal hero made 255 Premier League appearances for the club and captained the club to four league titles.
He also won the FA Cup three times and the European Cup Winners’ Cup, among other trophies, during his time at Arsenal and was named in the PFA team of the year four times.
He has now been included in a shortlist of the top ten Premier League captains, as selected by Gary Lineker, Ian Wright and Shearer.
Adams is one of two former Arsenal captains included in the shortlist, along with Patrick Vieira.
And Shearer has been full of praise for the former England centre-back when giving his assessment of Adams at Arsenal.
Speaking on the Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast, he said: "He was the best centre-half I played against in the English game.
"A great leader and organiser.
"That back four that he played in was relentless and incredibly tough to play against."
Meanwhile, Wright has also been full of praise for his former team-mate, who he said "led by example."
"No matter what he was going through personally, he came in every day and was always the leader, the captain, ready to go.
"He led by example, he looked you in the eye and told you exactly what he wanted from you.
"He would tell you home truths.
"He was a proper leader."
