Arsenal fans will love Paul Merson's brutal Tottenham prediction

Arsenal great Paul Merson has predicted that Tottenham will struggle to make the top four next season after their Champions League hopes were all-but dashed last week.

Spurs face Everton on Monday in the Premier League but will struggle to repeat the solid campaigns of recent times which had seen the club become a perennial top-four side.

Life under Mauricio Pochettino was fruitful with an appearance in the Champions League final at the end of last term but a poor start led to his exit and fortunes have not improved under Jose Mourinho.

More evidence of that came last Thursday thanks to a 3-1 defeat at Sheffield United and reflecting on that result and looking ahead to next season, former Arsenal man Merson delivered a stinging verdict.

"I am watching Tottenham at the moment and I don't see any fun. They must be thinking let's just get this season done," Merson told Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday.

"They are short and they need players. They have been shoe-ins for the top four but now they look a million miles off.

"I worry for them but they have to buy in to how Mourinho plays.

"It's a clash of personalities at the moment. I don't see any answer to this. I just think they will be an also-ran next season as well."
