Arsenal fans will love Martin Keown's view on Liverpool's unbeaten record

Former Arsenal star Martin Keown has provided an honest view on whether he wants Liverpool to surpass the Gunners' Premier League unbeaten record.

Arsene Wenger's famous Invincibles side went unbeaten throughout the entire 2003/04 campaign, Keown's last with the club.

Eventually, a defeat at Manchester United ended Arsenal's unbeaten 49-game streak, something which Liverpool are still 12 matches off levelling.

The Reds lost only one match in the Premier League last term away at Manchester City in January but since that point the club has enjoyed a remarkable run in the top tier.

It has now been over a year since that defeat to City, with a 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Thursday allowing Jurgen Klopp's men to reach that feat.

Asked if he wants Liverpool to lose so Arsenal can maintain their Invincibles status, Keown told talkSPORT: "I suppose it would be nice to have that uniqueness, we have a little gold trophy and it’s not an easy thing to do, let me tell you.

"But if Liverpool can do this… well, it’s looking like [they can]."

Liverpool are the third Premier League team to have gone more than a year unbeaten, with Arsenal and Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side also achieving the same feat between 2004 and 2005.

The Reds are now on 37 league games unbeaten, just three matches shy of Chelsea's 40-game run.

Whilst Keown wants Liverpool to slip-up, he cannot help comparing the two sides.

"I listened to an interview with (Jordan) Henderson and (Virgil) Van Dijk and all the messages seemed very, very similar to us back in the day,” Keown added.

"You might lose other games in other competitions, as they have done, but you have that extra shell, a coating, an armour, that you’re really proud about the run.

"There is never an inquest to a defeat, because there isn’t one! In one whole year they’ve ever had to look at one another with that disappointment. When I was in that dressing room with those players I’d look around and say, 'I’d go to war with you guys'. That attitude is unique!

"You look around and think, how long can we keep achieving this? And there will be a concern that if they lose a game that they could lose a couple, but they’re in the zone. It’s quite remarkable form."
