Arsenal fans will love Granit Xhaka's explanation of what Nicolas Pepe does in training

Granit Xhaka has said that Nicolas Pepe's stunning free-kicks against Vitoria were not a surprise to him and his Arsenal teammates.

The big-money summer signing has taken time to settle into life in North London but announced himself in style with two stunning strikes in the Europa League clash on Thursday.

Those goals have left supporters very excited about what could be in store, and speaking in the official matchday programme for the clash with Crystal Palace, Xhaka says that the squad are happy to see Pepe fulfill his potential.

He said: "I think I speak for us all when I say how delighted I was for Nico on Thursday night.

"In my notes for the Vitoria game I spoke about his quality - and he showed that in style with two late free-kicks.

"I wasn't at all surprised to see him step up and curl them in though because it's something we see a lot of on the training pitch.

"Nico is a guy who often stays behind in training, working on perfecting his technique both at free-kicks but also his general finishing.

"We've got an exciting player in our ranks and I'm sure he's going to give us many more moments like Thursday night.

"His attitude and approach has also impressed me and I'm really pleased that he showed what he can do against Vitoria."
