Arsenal fans will love Gary Neville's comments on Matteo Guendouzi despite Man City defeat

Gary Neville has lauded praise on Matteo Guendouzi during Arsenal's first-half against Manchester City.

The Gunners found themselves 1-0 down at half-time after David Luiz's error allowed Raheem Sterling to put Manchester City ahead.

Luiz was initially left out of Mikel Arteta's team but entered the action after Pablo Mari was forced off with an injury, following in Granit Xhaka's footsteps.

Arteta opted for youth in his first-team selection for three months, with Bukayo Saka, Guendouzi, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock all prefered to their more experienced teammates, whilst Mesut Ozil wasn't even named in the matchday squad.

With Willock, Xhaka (then Dani Ceballos, and Guendouzi making Arsenal's trio in midfield, the Frenchman was seen taking the bull by the horns for the Gunners as he instigated their passing moves.

It drew big praise from Neville, who insisted the youngster has performed and acted as a leader ever since his introduction into the team.

"Since the moment he came into the team, Guendouzi, he has looked like a big character and a leader," Neville said during co-commentary.

"He gets on the ball all the time, he shows great courage to play and he's always demanding from his teammates.

"He's not that!(a squad player) You see him on the pitch, he's always got his arms stretched, looking over his shoulder. He demands from himself but also others."
