Arsenal fans told Edu and Mikel Arteta have made final decision over £7m midfielder

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes Matteo Guendouzi will leave the club for good in the summer.

Guendouzi joined Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan deal over the summer transfer window after falling out-of-favour under Mikel Arteta.

The French midfielder was training away from the Gunners' first-team set-up before he agreed a deal to join the Bundesliga side on a temporary basis.

Arteta's side were willing to let Guendouzi - who they value at £30m, according to Football Insider - leave the club on a permanent deal, but they couldn't find a team willing to meet their demands for the Frenchman.

The 21-year-old was involved in a brawl with Brighton & Hove Albion striker Neil Maupay towards the end of last season, where the young Frenchman was accused of bragging about his wages in front of the Seagulls players.

Straight after the match, Guendouzi was immediately dropped from the squad by Arteta, and he is now playing his football in Germany.

Campbell, when speaking to Football Insider, believes the on-loan Arsenal man will leave the Emirates Stadium on a permanent deal when next summer comes along.

"I do not think he will play for Arsenal again. He doesn't have a future at Arsenal," the ex-Gunners forward said.

"Mikel Arteta put him in detention after the Brighton game last season, that is what it was - detention.

"A manager like Arteta wants to see that you can toe the line, take your punishment, keep your trap shut and get working. Guendouzi could not do it.

"He was given a clean slate at the start of the season, like Mesut Ozil, but they did not toe the line.

"Arteta is strong enough to exclude players he cannot trust. When a manager cannot trust you, he is not going to back you.

"The good thing is they got him out on loan because you cannot afford to have ill-disciplined players like that in and around the club. The right thing was to get him out on loan."

Guendouzi has played 82 times for the Gunners in all competitions so far, since making the switch to London from French side Lorient back in 2018 for a reported £7 million (plus add-ons).

So far this season, the midfielder has featured twice for Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga - but is yet to register a direct goal involvement for his new side.
