Arsenal fans think Mikel Arteta has dropped a big team news hint ahead of Everton clash

Gabriel Martinelli could be set for a surprise return to the Arsenal matchday squad for Saturday evening's Premier League clash against Everton.

The 19-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance so far this season.

That's because he's only recently returned to full training after undergoing knee surgery back in July which ended his impressive breakthrough campaign earlier than expected.

But the past few weeks have brought about encouraging signs for Martinelli and Mikel Arteta has revealed that the Brazilian is close to being available for selection.

Mikel Arteta previews Everton vs Arsenal

"At the moment we have to look at the next game," he said when asked in his press conference ahead of the trip to Goodison Park if he would be resting any players.

"There are players that are ending the last phase of their rehab like Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari has already played some minutes in the Europa League. Mustafi as well.

"Gabi Martinelli is very close to be available and fit to be part of us which is great news, and we will see what happens."

football.london exclusively revealed that Martinelli would be making his return in a Gunners shirt for the under-23s in their Papa John's Trophy clash against AFC Wimbledon earlier this month and he came through 45 minutes unscathed.

And in an attempt to build up his fitness, the forward was due to play for the U23's once again in their Premier League 2 clash against Leicester City on Friday evening.

However, when the line-up was announced there was no sign of Martinelli in the squad.

With that in mind, Arsenal fans think there's a simple reason as to why Martinelli did not feature against the Foxes and many believe that it confirms he will be involved against the Toffees.
