Arsenal fans think Mikel Arteta has discovered his own Karim Benzema and Luis Suarez

Arsenal fans know all too well about previous links to Luiz Suarez and Karim Benzema.

In the summer of 2013 there was the infamous bid of £40million and one pound for the then-Liverpool striker as Gunners thought they had activated his release clause which meant they could discuss personal terms with the Uruguayan.

However, that wasn't the case as Suarez ended up staying in Merseyside, went on to net 31 goals in the Premier League the following season, and departed for Barcelona the following summer.

Fast forward to the 2015 summer transfer window where Arsenal were being heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid's Benzema.

Aston Villa v Arsenal: Mikel Arteta press conference

Although, the Frenchman didn't appear to have taken those rumours seriously.

"Never. Like every summer, I laugh about it with my brother and my friends. We wait for the media to come out with these rumours," Benzema told Journal du Dimanche.

"In my opinion, I think that Real and Barca are the pinnacle in football. Why I would leave?

"I'm a starter for the best club in the world. I am happy; it's that simple."

So despite links with two of the best centre-forwards in Europe, the Gunners ultimately didn't sign any of them and will go down as players that got away from former manager Arsene Wenger.

However, there's a theory amongst some Arsenal fans on Reddit that Mikel Arteta may have discovered his own version of Benzema and Suarez.

Not in terms of playing style, but a subtle change in appearance.

With two goals in his last three starts, club-record signing Nicolas Pepe is arguably enjoying his best form since arriving from Lille for £72m in the summer of 2019.

And some fans think the reason behind Pepe's recent form is because he now wears a bandage on his right-hand - just like Benzema, Suarez, and even Jamie Vardy who is another striker that was linked with a move to the Emirates.

redmistultra said: "Martinelli, Suarez, Vardy, all players who became even better thanks to a wrist bandage/injury."

To which Ibraheeeeeem replied by saying: "Don't forget Benzema."

_SSJeffo_ said: "Must’ve landed on it or something just want him to keep it now like Suarez and Vardy did."
