Arsenal fans think Mikel Arteta discovered another Karim Benzema and Luis Suarez in 3-3 draw

A familiar theme is recurring at Arsenal and it is bringing out the best in certain players.

With goals against Southampton and Wolves at the turn of the year, club-record signing Nicolas Pepe was arguably enjoying his best form since arriving from Lille for £72million in the summer of 2019.

And some fans think felt the reason behind Pepe's recent form was because he was wearing a bandage on his right-hand - just like Karim Benzema, Luiz Suarez, and even Jamie Vardy.

Of course, Arsenal fans know all too well about previous links to the Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid stars respectively.

In the summer of 2013 there was the infamous bid of £40million and one pound for the then-Liverpool striker as Gunners thought they had activated his release clause which meant they could discuss personal terms with the Uruguayan.

However, that wasn't the case as Suarez ended up staying in Merseyside, went on to net 31 goals in the Premier League the following season, and departed for Barcelona the following summer.

Fast forward to the 2015 summer transfer window where Arsenal were being heavily linked with a move for Real Madrid's Benzema. Although, the Frenchman didn't appear to have taken those rumours seriously.

"Never. Like every summer, I laugh about it with my brother and my friends. We wait for the media to come out with these rumours," Benzema told Journal du Dimanche. "In my opinion, I think that Real and Barca are the pinnacle in football. Why I would leave?

"I'm a starter for the best club in the world. I am happy; it's that simple."

Having missed out on the real thing, there was theory amongst some Arsenal fans that Mikel Arteta may have discovered his own version of Benzema and Suarez.

Not in terms of playing style, but a subtle change in Pepe's appearance.

By that theory, Arteta might have discovered another Benzema and Suarez following his side's dramatic 3-3 draw against West Ham United at the weekend.

Alexandre Lacazette was impressive at the London Stadium. Aside from his deflected effort - which has gone down as a Tomas Soucek own-goal - to begin the comeback and his header to earn the Gunners a point, he created numerous chances and was a constant threat for the Hammers' defence.

And after noticing the Frenchman was also wearing a bandage on his left-hand, fans on Reddit have once again chalked up that as being the reason for his performance.

eighty_eight_Saka said: "Time to bandage the entire first team's hand now."

ancientnucleusTierney said: "There actually legitimately may be some story with the bandage actually. Even Pepe returned to form when one of his hands was bandaged some weeks ago."

yura910721 said: "No wonder he was so good in this game..."

NetsAndCannons said: "Bandage strikes again."
