Arsenal fans spot what Nuno Tavares did after Emile Smith Rowe's 'very strange' goal vs Watford

One goal was all that Arsenal needed to get the better of Watford on Sunday afternoon.

It came 10 minutes into the second half, courtesy of Emile Smith Rowe - on the scoresheet for a third Premier League game in a row - although there was something 'strange' about the strike.

Watford manager Claudio Ranieri and Mikel Arteta clashed at the final whistle with the Italian airing his view that the Gunners should have kicked the ball out in the build-up to the deadlock being broken.

After Danny Rose had kicked the ball out in order for his team-mate to receive treatment, instead of returning the ball back to the Hornets, Arsenal opted to keep possession and a few moments later Smith Rowe was celebrating.

Much to the anger of the Watford players and Ranieri.

"We put out the ball and everybody expected the Arsenal players to give back the ball," he told reporters after the game. "Sissoko and Rose said give the ball to us we put the ball out because there was an injured player.

"After this it was very strange.

"Sarr take the ball and in my opinion there was a big foul and then nothing and then they scored a goal. Very strange. It’s ok that’s football and I’m very satisfied about our performance."

Arteta moved to defend his Arsenal players afterwards: "I have to defend my players, my team and my club. We said that we are the most honest all of them. Even at some stages we can almost become naïve.

"If he felt like that I apologise if that was the case. But for sure there was no intention to take any advantage."

Whilst the Watford camp were left irritated by the manner of the goal, Smith Rowe didn't waste any time in running off to celebrate after seeing his effort hit the back of the net.

And there was a moment during his celebrations that left some Gunners fans very impressed.

As spotted on Reddit, when Smith Rowe performed what is slowly becoming his customary knee-slide celebration, there was an appreciation for Nuno Tavares' attempt too.

The left-back, who got the nod over the fit again Kieran Tierney, slid into the shot at the perfect time and endeared himself to Arsenal supporters even more.
