Arsenal fans spotted what Nicolas Pepe did to James McArthur following Bukayo Saka incident

Arsenal supporters have been reacting to Nicolas Pepe nutmegging James McArthur in the side's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

The Gunners rescued a point in the latter stages of the clash on Monday through Alexandre Lacazette 's late equaliser at the Emirates Stadium after Odsonne Edouard handed Palace the lead earlier in the match.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang initially gave Arsenal a 1-0 advantage after just eight minutes of action in north London, but Christian Benteke equalised for the Eagles in the second-half.

The major talking point, though, came when McArthur rather cynically fouled Arsenal and England star Bukayo Saka.

Saka was clearing the ball and McArthur swung a leg at the youngster and kicked his calf, with referee Mike Dean only issuing the Palace midfielder a yellow card, with many believing it should have been a sending off.

So, it made it even better for Arsenal supporters when they spotted what Pepe did to McArthur later on in the game, with the Ivory Coast international producing a fine piece of skill to nutmeg the midfielder.

Speaking about the aforementioned Saka incident after the game, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was not happy with the decision to only book McArthur and then called on the Video Assistant Referee to have a more active role in order to protect the players.

Arteta said: "I don’t get it [why VAR did not look at the incident], for me, it’s strange because with what we were explained at the start of the season and what happened it doesn’t make any sense."

He then responded to how he would improve the VAR: "Well, that you make straight away the decision.

"When it’s so clear and so obvious, do it straight away and they have to play with ten men.

"If we want to detect things that are really relevant in a game that can change the football match, then they have to be looked at.

"That situation is not only that is affecting them, but we had to take our player off because of that action so it’s affecting in two different ways. It’s not right."

Arsenal will be desperate to have Saka available to them this week as the Gunners prepare for what has turned in to an even more crucial clash with Aston Villa on Friday evening.
