Arsenal fans spot what happened between Santi Cazorla and Nacho Monreal ahead of La Liga clash

It was a case of ex-Arsenal teammates reunited in La Liga on Monday evening.

Defender Nacho Monreal left the Gunners during last summer's transfer window, while Santi Cazorla returned to his homeland following the expiration of his Arsenal contract in 2018.

So with Villarreal hosting Real Sociedad in an important game for European qualification for next season, it meant the pair were on opposite sides.

Despite it being such a huge game, the pair shared a nice moment before kick-off.

As both teams waited in the tunnel, Cazorla and Monreal could be seen sharing a hug.

This was spotted by an eagle-eyed Arsenal supporter who shared the image on Reddit.

Cazorla and Monreal's popularity among some Arsenal fans were evident in the comments as one said: "I miss these guys so much. Just wish Cazorla comes back for one season."

And another said: "Monreal would be a starter for us."

The embrace between the pair won't be a surprise to any Arsenal fan as the duo have a strong bond.

In fact, Cazorla played a key role in Monreal's move to north London in January 2013.

"I remember on January 31, I woke up, looked at my phone and has two [missed] calls from Santi. And I thought it was really strange, Santi calling me in the morning," Monreal recalled.

“So I called him: ‘Santi, how are you? What’s happened? [he replied] Nacho, do you want to come to Arsenal? [I replied] What, pardon me? Yes, of course’.

“So the transfer was really quick. On one day I was training in the morning with Malaga and I didn’t know anything, and then 10 hours later I was signing my contract with Arsenal.

"It was a really, really strange day for me, really happy of course, a good day for me."
