Arsenal fans spot what Dominik Szoboszlai did vs Atletico Madrid amid talk of transfer decision

Arsenal fans made the most of matchday six in the Champions League by scouting Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

In less than a month, the January transfer window will be open and Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has already discussed the prospect of being active in a bid to bolster his squad.

One name who has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium is attacking midfielder Szoboszlai, although Arsenal face competition from clubs across Europe for the Hungarian's signature.

Szoboszlai has a £25m release clause in his contract with the Austrian outfit, but football.london understands the north London outfit are also exploring more experienced options to fill the creativity void.

It remains to be seen where the 20-year-old ends up for the second half of the season, but it's been reported that a decision regarding his future will be made next week.

"We will have Szoboszlai's decision by the next week. Leipzig would be the easiest solution because they are in the same family with Redbull," transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has said. "Milan are always in contact.

"Arsenal have also been in contact for many years."

Putting all the transfer speculation to one side, Szoboszlai started for Salzburg in a must-win Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening.

Needing all three points to qualify for the last-16, the Hungary international was unable to replicate what he did in the reverse game when he scored in a 3-2 loss back in October.

Not only did Salzburg lose 2-0 at home - a result that means they will join Arsenal in the Europa League in the new year - but Szoboszlai missed a glorious chance to equalise in the second half.

Striding through the Atletico midfield, Szoboszlai swapped passes with a teammate and with just Jan Oblak to beat, he somehow sliced an effort wide.

That miss was spotted by a number of Arsenal fans on social media, many of whom had something to say.

Take a look at what's been said on Twitter...

@ArsenalCanada04 said: "Big miss from Szoboszlai there, went on a really good run and created it for himself. Really should've scored but still a great run and piece of play."

@marco_gooner said: "Szoboszlai missed a few big chances today so he passed the Arsenal test for sure. We move."

And in a perhaps what is a tongue-in-cheek comment, Chelsea supporter @CFCaustin has suggested that Arsenal is the right move for Szoboszlai.

"Szoboszlai just missed an absolute sitter right in front of goal.....maybe Arsenal is the perfect team for him," the tweet reads.
