Arsenal fans spot what Alexandre Lacazette did after Gunners make Aubameyang captaincy decision

Alexandre Lacazette has 'liked' an Instagram post justifying Arsenal's decision to relieve Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of his captaincy duties.

Aubameyang was left out of the Gunners squad over the weekend as they defeated Southampton 3-0 and head coach Mikel Arteta confirmed that the Gabon international was dropped due to a disciplinary issue.

The club then announced on Tuesday afternoon that the 32-year-old had been stripped as club captain, also stating that he will again be left out of the matchday squad for Wednesday night's clash against West Ham United.

In his pre-match press conference, Arteta said: "What I can say now is to make the decision that we made is really hurting, and it is still like this and it needs a bit of time to heal. So for now, he is not involved in the squad."

The Spaniard also claimed that his relationship with the former Borussia Dortmund striker has been good, making the latest twist especially painful.

When asked about their relationship, he added: "Since I have been here, really, really good. That is why it is painful."

Now, Lacazette, who is a good friend of Aubameyang, has 'liked' a post on Instagram claiming that Arteta has done the right thing.

The caption read: "A player who hit the heights for us and a player who did it all by himself in 2020.

"Who’d have thought we’d be here just over a year later?

"If Arteta really feels like he has to do this, then it is probably the correct decision. It simply must be an occasion too far for Arteta to look past this one. Seems likely that this is a repeat offence.

"Time to move on to a new captain, but let’s not forget what he did for us not that long ago."
