Arsenal fans spot Mesut Ozil no longer wearing No.10 prompting transfer theory

Arsenal fans spotted a detail from Mesut Ozil’s training gear that has prompted a transfer theory.

The German has continued to be an outcast in Mikel Arteta’s side, yet to play a single minute of football since lockdown.

It has seen the midfielder linked with a move away from the club, despite impressing supporters with his skills in training recently.

But Ozil has been spotted sporting some different kit in training that could be a big hint over his future.

In a clip from Arsenal ’s latest training session, the German was seen walking to training with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, William Saliba and Matteo Guendouzi.

Arsenal’s goal-hunters laugh with each other while the youngsters enjoy a char - but the German walks on his own.

And he is also wearing tracksuit bottoms with Lacazette’s No.9 on them instead of the No.10 that is normally seen on his back.

The footage was shared on the club’s official YouTube channel, where the Gunners faithful were quick to notice the number change.

“Interesting, Ozil’s pants saying ‘9’ instead of ’10’ – or am I on about nothing,” one supporter said.

Another commented: “Why does Ozil have the number 9 on his Tracksuit?”

While a third added: “So apparently Ozil plays number 9 now.”

But others believe it is something to do with Arsenal’s transfer pursuit of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, who helped the French to the Champions League semi-finals.

A fourth added: “Ozil wearing No.9 - bringing in Aouar.”

With a fifth writing: “Who else noticed Ozil wearing No.9 on his legs? Aouar here soon.”

And a sixth simply said: “Aouar is coming.”

It comes as Arsenal legend Ian Wright has given a damning assessment of Ozil’s situation in north London.

"At the end of the day he is still paid to be a footballer for that club and so while he is there you want him to do the best he can for them," he said.

"Now if his attitude isn’t right in training or whatever and the manager isn’t seeing it, I just find it devastating that we can’t get somebody to make him understand how integral he is to what we could be doing right now."
