Arsenal fans spot Granit Xhaka truth as midfielder closes in on Roma transfer

Granit Xhaka looks increasingly likely to leave Arsenal this summer with a move to AS Roma on the cards.

The Switzerland midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Italian club over a proposed summer transfer, football.london understands, but the two sides are yet to reach an agreement over a fee.

Xhaka has been with the Gunners since signing from Borussia Monchengladbach for £35million in 2016 and has been an ever-present figure under the three managers he's played under at the Emirates Stadium - Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta.

The Swiss midfielder has endured an up and down time during his spell in north London, and looks set to end his five-year association with the club in the coming days, weeks or months.

Now, a stat has emerged that sees Xhaka top all of his Arsenal team-mates over the course of the 2020/21 season.

Xhaka produced, on average, eight progressive passes per 90 minutes, with Thomas Partey and Dani Ceballos the closest players to him in that regard.

This might not come as much of a surprise to some Gunners fans, with the 28-year-old likely to see plenty of possession because of his position as a deep-lying playmaker in Arsenal's midfield.

However, it may be one of the reasons that Xhaka has been virtually a staple under his three managers at the Emirates Stadium.

The Arsenal midfielder recently spoke about his future, with it looking like a move to Roma to link up with former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is on the cards.

"There are always rumours as soon as the transfer market opens but I don't want to talk about my future," he told a press conference ahead of Switzerland's match against Wales recently.

"I want to keep that until the end of the tournament and what happens afterwards you will then get to know about it.

"Everything else doesn't distract me. I'm fit and motivated and I'm looking forward to doing a lot of things.

"This tournament is very important to the team and to Switzerland and we want to show it with good performances here."
