Arsenal fans should not settle for big signings as Daniel Ek's takeover dream reignites

Talks about change at boardroom level at Arsenal Football Club were reignited after Spotify owner, Daniel Ek was seen with Thierry Henry at last weekend's North London derby.

Some fans though have been satisfied with the current owner Stan Kroenke and Kroenke Sports and Entertainment funding the huge summer transfer spending. Should they be though, especially after the Super League debacle and other concerns?

The Arsenal Way's presenter and writer, Tom Canton (TC) spoke with Chris Davison (CD) and Hush Kerai (HK), on Tuesday morning’s The Arsenal Agenda Show to discuss the issue.

Here's a brief look at what was said:

TC: “In attendance was a certain Swedish billionaire Mr Daniel Ek alongside former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry. Henry spoke on Sky Sports last night addressing it. Chris is there any additional hope in your mind of a takeover?”

CD: “Well, it would be nice wouldn’t it. But, as Thierry said last night I think it is one that just drags on if I’m being honest. KSE (Kroenke Sports Entertainment) holds all the keys, don’t they? They’ve just invested a lot of money into transfers this summer. I found it interesting actually, that there’s a fans forum meeting last night.

“They said the owners have put a lot of money into the club this summer and some of the signings we’ve made were only possible through their financial support. So, I found that interesting that came out around the same time Thierry was speaking on TV.

“But, look he’s also made it clear that they’re also here to stay. So, we can take away some hope, some optimism. We know that Daniel Ek is a big Arsenal fan himself. He’s obviously teamed up with some of the invincible players - Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry.

“It’s one to keep an eye on and I think that is just going to have to be the case for now. Obviously in the background talks will be happening. But, I can’t see anything massive happening anytime soon.

“It’s about finding the right moment, the right time. It’s also about finding a financial package that is going to convince KSE. Yeah, we’ll have to wait and see what happens as Thierry said. But, despite having a busy summer, I’m still on the side of wanting change at board level.

“I don’t think KSE are fit enough to run Arsenal football club and I think their ambitions are not our ambitions. It’s as simple as that really. I’ll keep my fingers crossed, Thierry’s quotes give us a little bit of hope and optimism for what the future may hold.

“But, it’s important not to get carried away too soon. It’s going to drag on.”
