Arsenal’s failure to qualify for Europe for the first time in 25 years is enough evidence to suggest that they need to significantly strengthen before the start of next season.
football.london understands that the Gunners are planning to overhaul their squad, with a number of senior players expected to permanently depart in order to raise funds for potential incomings.
One such player rumoured to be of interest to Mikel Arteta is Yves Bissouma who’s had an impressive season under Graham Potter’s tutelage on the south coast.
In January, the north London outfit were linked with a move for the midfielder, and it was reported that he loves the Premier League and would play for the Gunners over any other club.
The rumours then gathered pace in early May when Bissouma uploaded an image of Nicolas Pepe and the winger’s agent Michael N’Cho on Instagram in relation to the latter being named the best African agent manager of 2020.
Uploading an image of Pepe, who is known to be Bissouma’s good friend from their time together at Lille in Ligue 1, sparked a bit of a transfer theory amongst Arsenal fans.
Well, it’s fair to say that that excitement has resurfaced as a result of Arsenal fans spotting a conversation that took place between the two after Arsenal’s 2-0 victory at the Emirates on the final day of the Premier League season, a game in which Pepe scored both of the Gunners’ goals in front of a returning home crowd.
Here’s what some fans had to say on Twitter.
It’s too early to say whether Bissouma will be an Arsenal player before September but this is possibly a sign that he could be happy if he were to move to north London.
Arsenal's victory at the Emirates - in front of 10,000 fans - was not enough to secure Europa Conference League football for the Gunners, as Tottenham beat Leicester City 4-2 to claim seventh spot.
