Arsenal fans send transfer message to Edu as Manchester United target Dayot Upamecano

With just two weeks remaining before the start of the new Premier League campaign.

Ahead of the opening fixtures, clubs are making their moves in the transfer window in order to try and shape their squads.

It is no different at Arsenal, where Mikel Arteta is close to bringing in his second signing of the summer.

The Gunners looked to have fought off competition from both Napoli and Manchester United for Lille Centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes who is expected to arrive at the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The defender will join Willian who agreed a three-year deal with Arsenal earlier this month after the expiry of his contract at Chelsea at the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta speaks on changes at Arsenal

Following the capture of Gabriel, it is expected that Mikel Arteta will continue to look to add to his squad.

One player who has been previously linked is RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

However, according to ESPN, Manchester United are targeting the Frenchman, despite him only agreeing a new contract earlier this summer.

And that news has not gone down well with Arsenal fans.

United are close to sealing a £40 million move for Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, and are said to be ready to turn to Upamecano in order to bolster their defensive options.

The defender did put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at the Bundesliga club earlier this summer, but that was to make sure that the club didn’t lose the player for free next summer.

It is said that the player’s release clause in his contract has reduced from £53 million to around £38 million.
