Arsenal fans send message to Nicolas Pepe after matchwinning cameo against Vitoria

It was a night where Nicolas Pepe truly announced himself as an Arsenal player.

With the Gunners trailing 2-1 against Vitoria, Unai Emery summoned the Ivorian winger from the bench and the summer signing from Lille delivered.

The Portuguese side led thanks to goals from Marcus Edwards and Bruno Duarte, but an initial equaliser from Gabriel Martinelli and two late Pepe strikes turned the game around.

Pepe netted his first with a brilliant free-kick past the goalkeeper's outstretched right hand, before repeating the trick in stoppage time; curling into the top corner to snatch all three points.

The win takes Arsenal onto nine points from nine in the Europa League group, but for Pepe it was an evening where he began to repay the faith shown in him by the Gunners when they smashed their transfer record to sign him.

The 24-year-old has struggled to adjust to the Premier League in recent months, and was criticised after a poor performance at Manchester United and a glaring miss against Sheffield United.

But his match-winning cameo from the bench against Vitoria could serve to inspire the forward to start delivering consistent performances in the league.

After the game, Arsenal supporters took to social media to praise the winger.
