Arsenal fans send Diego Simeone message to Raul Sanllehi amid reports of Atletico Madrid exit

Diego Simeone's spell as Atletico Madrid manager could be coming to an end, according to reports in Spain.

The 49-year-old has enjoyed a successful eight-year tenure at the La Liga side, winning the La Liga title once and the Europa League twice.

Atletico have also reached the Champions League final twice in the last six years, but the Spanish giants have been below par this season and currently sit sixth in the table, six points behind joint leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Simeone's side have only won once in their last seven games in all competitions, while they are still to guarantee qualification for the Champions League last-16 with Bayer Leverkusen only a point behind in the group.

The summer sales of Antoine Griezmann to Barca and Rodri to Manchester City have weakened the side, while Diego Godin also departed on a free transfer to Inter Milan.

And according to Spanish newspaper Marca, Atleti may part ways with Simeone soon with board members disappointed with recent performances and fear the club will fail to achieve the clear objectives set for the league and Champions League at the beginning of the season.

With the current state of affairs, the report claims a mutual 'divorce is on the horizon', and a parting of the ways could be close.

Simeone has tentatively been linked with Premier League clubs in the past, but a departure from Atletico would put several clubs on alert, particularly Arsenal, who are still searching for a new head coach after Unai Emery's sacking.

Some supporters took to social media to react to the reports, with many believing Arsenal should appoint the Argentinian should he become available.

Not all fans were keen however, with one writing: 'Please don’t bring him anywhere near the Emirates.'

Another tweeted: 'Don't think the club would want a big personality like that.'

Everton have also been linked with Simeone in the past, with the Toffees reportedly sounding out the former Inter midfielder in 2017.
