Arsenal are braced for a fan protest ahead of their match against Everton on Friday, with supporters angry at owner Stan Kroenke’s involvement in the failed launch of a European Super League.
The Gunners, along with 11 other sides, had agreed to join the new breakaway competition on Sunday.
On Tuesday night, however, Arsenal and the rest of the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ pulled out of the Super League following a furious backlash from supporters.
Arsenal apologised to the club’s fans for their actions, and admitted they made a mistake, but there is growing unrest among supporters towards owner Kroenke.
Fans had already been planning to protest the Super League ahead of Friday’s game against Everton - just as Chelsea supporters did before Tuesday’s match against Brighton - and they will still do so.
However, the protest at Emirates Stadium is now expected to centre around fan discontent with Kroenke and his running of the club.
Several supporters’ groups have made their feelings known on social media, with club legend Ian Wright also joining the cause by tweeting “#KroenkeOut” on Tuesday night.
The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust tweeted: “Stan Kroenke is the 100% owner of Arsenal. He is the Board. Yet he can't even own the apology. Shameless. Not fit to own Arsenal #kroenkeout".
