Arsenal fans noticed what William Saliba did during Saint-Etienne's French Cup win

William Saliba was in Coupe de France quarter-final action for Saint-Etienne on Thursday night.

Injuries have limited the defender, who is on loan at the Ligue 1 outfit this season, to less then 15 appearances across all competitions so far this term.

But when he has played, he has usually impressed which means excitement is building amongst Arsenal supporters ahead of his return to the club this summer.

However, on his latest outing for Saint-Etienne he had a moment he will want to forget in a hurry.

With the visitors 2-0 up against lower league opposition in SAS Epinal, Saliba conceded a penalty just after the hour mark as he tried to play offside before making contact with Jean-Philippe Krasso.

The forward made no mistake from 12 yards as he set up a tense final half hour for Les Verts.

Saliba and company saw the game out and booked their place in the semi-final where they will meet defending champions Rennes at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard at the beginning of next month.

Upon watching a replay of the penalty incident, some Gunners fans may feel the decision was quite harsh as there seemed to be minimal contact.

And this was pointed out by a few on social media.

Take a look at what was said on Twitter...

Ahead of the game, Saliba had spoken about his return to his parent club in the summer, but insisted that he is fully concentrated on helping his loan club to turn around their season.

"For now, I'm 300% focused on Saint-Étienne," he told Le10 Sport. "My head isn't elsewhere

"Next year, I’ll be at Arsenal, but I still follow their results."
