Arsenal fans noticed what Hector Bellerin did to Gabriel Martinelli during win over Vitoria

Arsenal fans have not been treated to a great deal of excitement this season but on Thursday night at the Emirates a dramatic finish had supporters on their feet.

Nicolas Pepe was crowned the hero for the night but nobody will forget the strong performance of 18-year-old Gabriel Martinelli, who once again shone when handed his opportunity.

The £6m summer signing is yet to start a Premier League match but he now has five goals in three League Cup and Europa League starts combined.

Martinelli scored a wonderful header from Kieran Tierney's cross in the first half which cancelled out the opener for Vitoria from ex-Tottenham man Marcus Edwards.

Vitoria hit the front again thanks to Bruno Duarte's goal before the break, only for Arsenal to hit the Portuguese side with a wonderful double blow late on.

But it could so easily have been Martinelli who had the final say, only for the teenage sensation to miss a golden one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper. It would have been the forward's third brace of the season but it wasn't to be.

The great thing that came about because of the situation, though, was the reaction on the field from Hector Bellerin, who used that moment to run up to his team-mate and 'give him a big hug' and words of encouragement.

The incident was caught by eagle-eyed observers in the stands, who were quick to praise a player in Bellerin who is becoming more of a leader with every game he plays.
