Arsenal fans noticed what happened to Emile Smith Rowe after his first game under Mikel Arteta

Emile Smith Rowe is back at Arsenal and made his first appearance under Mikel Arteta on Tuesday evening.

The wonderkid was a second half substitute as the Gunners kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 4-1 win over MK Dons with Mohamed Elneny, Eddie Nketiah, Mark McGuinness and Reiss Nelson all on the scoresheet.

But it's what happened at full-time at the Stadium MK which has prompted a big reaction from some Arsenal supporters.

England squad for UEFA Nations League fixtures in full

As the game was streamed live on both club's official websites as well as YouTube, fans didn't miss a single minute of the action.

And at the final whistle, as the Gunners squad made their way off the pitch, it was noticeable that Smith Rowe had a lengthy conversation with Albert Stuivenberg - one of Arteta's assistants.

Unfortunately, the coverage didn't allow fans to listen in to what was being said, but that's not stopped a few theories from emerging on social media.

The general consensus is that Smith Rowe is set to play a key role under Arteta in the 2020/21 season.

During his loan spell with Huddersfield Town, Smith Rowe revealed he was in constant contact with Arteta.

"We have kept in touch during the lockdown and we have gone through some clips," Smith Rowe told The National. “He has told me what I need to improve on.

And it would appear that Smith Rowe did exactly what was asked of him as football.london understands Arsenal are planning to integrate him into Arteta’s first team squad next season rather than sending the youngster out on loan.

Arteta has made no secret of his eagerness to blood Smith Rowe into his setup and believes the best environment for him to develop will be at London Colney.

"I am excited to work with him," Arteta said of Smith Rowe last month. "I have been talking with him and I have followed him during his spell on loan. I think he's someone who can be pretty impressive."
