Arsenal fans noticed what happened between Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Joe Willock in 0-0 draw

It was a case of Arsenal teammates being reunited on Sunday afternoon.

In a battle at the bottom of the Premier League table, West Brom and Newcastle United played out a goalless draw at the Hawthorns - a game that saw Ainsley Maitland-Niles come up against Joe Willock.

The midfield pair joined their respective clubs on loan for the remainder of the season during the January transfer window and were on opposing sides at the weekend.

Each played 90 minutes and there were a couple of moments in which Maitland-Niles and Willock's paths would cross in what was a must-win game for the Baggies.

However, it was the Magpies - and Willock - who would have been the happier of the two teams as that point lifted them up to 16th in the table, nine points clear of Sam Allardyce's side.

With that said, the main focus for Arsenal fans who tuned into the game was not the relegation six-pointer.

Rather it was to keep an eye on the progress of their two loan stars in what some on Reddit labelled 'Willockinho vs the birdman'.

suraj3009OneArsène Wenger said: "It’s great to see them get minutes, in the PL and in their preferred positions."

IhvolSnowGabriel said: "From highlights, Willock did well, could score and get an assist."

MaoToMandela said: "Willock was a threat in the first 30 mins, picked up the ball in good spaces. But without Saint-Maximan and Wilson, Willock's final ball is struggling because the whole team is awful going forward and Steve Bruce is far too negative to get the best out of him Tbf to Willock he played the full 90 and put a shift in at a more conservative position after Bruce's switch.

"AMN on the other hand was a bit less impressive. He is only ok at centre mid. He runs a fair amount but his final ball lacks real quality.

"It'll be interesting to see how they do for the rest of the season. I think both players are a little too used to home comforts atm."

davidofbrent said: "We should sell both to reinvest in the squad."

lyth99ozilman said: "I would personally like to see Willock stick around another year to see his development but Ainsley should go get playing time."

PrinceEmirate said: "AMN has been one of their best CMs for them and WBA fans rate him."
