Arsenal fans noticed what happened after Liverpool beat Southampton

Liverpool are storming away at the top of the Premier League table.

The Reds have been relentless in their charge towards the Premier League title this season and they have concerned Arsenal fans everywhere.

The one record Arsenal hold over every other team is that they went a whole Premier League season unbeaten.

The Invincibles of 2003/04 will always be remembered.

But Liverpool are just 13 games away from emulating that record now, and are well placed to finish with a far superior record too.

Mikel Arteta on Ainsley Maitland-Niles' position

The Reds have won 24 of their 25 Premier League games this season, dropping just two points all year in a 1-1 draw with fierce rivals Manchester United.

That means they have racked up an astonishing 73 points out of a possible 75 on offer this season.

Victory over Southampton on Saturday took them to that mark and Arsenal fans noticed something else about the result - the three points meant that the Gunners can no longer mathematically win the Premier League this season!

Arsenal are on 30 points from 24 games and can only reach a total of 72 if they win all of their remaining matches.

A photo of the league table was posted on the Arsenal Reddit page with the caption: "With Liverpool’s win today it is now mathematically impossible for Arsenal to win the Premier League title."

There was plenty of humour in the responses to the post, with many saying losing one game was all that was needed, to keep the Invincibles' record alive.

User chrismikehunt said: "So close, and yet so far," while leontheproffesional referenced the Invincibles in saying: "Please God, make them lose a match. Please."

Randomanxiousguy04 made a joke by saying: "Really thought this was our year."

Tymkie said: "Dang. Dreams destroyed," while lastjedi23 said: "Daaaamnnn so close."
