Arsenal fans noticed what Emiliano Martinez did after 'best goalkeeper in the world' claim

Sunday, March 21, 2021 proved to be one to forget for Arsenal goalkeepers past and present.

Bernd Leno hardly covered himself in glory during the Gunners' 3-3 draw against West Ham United. Whilst he could do nothing about Jesse Lingard's strike, he should have done better with Jarrod Bowen's effort that made it 2-0 after 17 minutes.

It's now 10 games in a row across all competitions since Leno last kept a clean sheet for Arsenal and there were some fans who were regretting a certain transfer decision last summer.

Emiliano Martinez, who won the FA Cup with the north London outfit last season before moving to Aston Villa in a £20million deal at the beginning of the campaign, has impressed at his new club.

Ahead of Villa's clash against Tottenham Hotspur, Martinez had kept 14 clean sheets in 27 Premier League appearances - including two against Arsenal.

This prompted a claim from his agent that he is among the best goalkeepers in the world.

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, Gustavo Goni heaped praise on his client and claimed he would have been just good had he stayed at the Emirates.

"He’s proving to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world," he said.

"Moving to Aston Villa was a success, it’s true, and he’s happy, but he’d have shone at any club including Arsenal!"

However, Martinez wasn't able to back up those claims on Sunday.

Losing to Spurs would have hurt the ex-Gunner but his error leading to Carlos Vinicius' opener - racing off his line only to make a mess of the attempted clearance - was picked up by many Arsenal fans on social media.

@leno_lord said: "Martinez makes more mistakes than Leno does and that’s a fact."

@afcDW said: "Whenever Leno makes a mistake, Martinez seems to follow suit out of some sense of solidarity or something."

@ClockEndArteta said: "Every single person who consistently cries over Martinez every day have a look at the goal he conceded. Everyone makes mistakes deal with it."
