Arsenal fans noticed what Ainsley Maitland-Niles did during the 2-0 win against Wolves

Arsenal have been praised as a whole for their 2-0 win over Wolves on Saturday which has boosted their chances of securing European football for next season.

Furthermore, there were several standout performers at Molineux Stadium including Shkodran Mustafi, Emiliano Martinez, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and goalscorer Bukayo Saka.

But there has been a special mention for Ainsley Maitland-Niles who was a second half substitute for Kieran Tierney.

Coming on at a time when the Gunners were coming under pressure from the hosts as they pushed for an equaliser, it was certainly a brave decision by head coach Mikel Arteta.

And one that ultimately paid off as Maitland-Niles barely put a foot wrong in the 39 minutes he was on the pitch (34 minutes plus five minutes of injury time).

This includes coming up against Wolves' dangerman Adama Traore who has been in sensational form since the Premier League season resumed and was earmarked as a concerns for the Gunners backline ahead of kick-off.

Such was Maitland-Niles' impressive display that some Arsenal fans are suggesting that he pocketed the Wolves winger.

Having come on to play at left-back, Maitland-Niles backed up his talk ahead of the game.

"It doesn’t bother me what people label me as because I think the management know themselves," he told The Mirror. "Ok I was late, maybe once during this manager’s time. It was a mistake, I spoke to the manager and put my hands up and took the consequences.

"I would play right-back every week if I had to. I am not really fussed. The main thing is being out there with the team and helping them win games.

"If the manager says to me 'Ains you gotta go in goal this game I will put the gloves on and I am ready to rock n roll.'

"That’s where some people may have misjudged what I said before in a different interview.

"Obviously I do prefer playing central midfield but that is not to say that I don’t want to play right-back or that I’m not going to do the job there if the manager asks me to."
