Arsenal fans name their ideal midfield duo ahead of crucial Norwich City game

By Danyal Khan

Arsenal fans have demanded to see a midfield duo of new signing Albert Sambi Lokonga and Thomas Partey play together as the Gunners attempt to rapidly climb the Premier League table ahead of Saturday's game with Norwich City.

So far in this new 2021/22 campaign, Granit Xhaka- who signed a new contract extension before the season started- has been a mainstay in Mikel Arteta's midfield.

However, the Switzerland international picked up a red card against Manchester City before the international break that rules him out of the Norwich game.

That has now opened up the opportunity for Arteta to mix and match his midfield in hope of trying to find the perfect combination to help turnaround the wretched form that sees Arsenal sit bottom of the league going into this weekend's round of games.

It is unknown yet whether Partey will be fit enough to start on Saturday, but as it stands, Lokonga almost certainly will be due to an abundance of injury problems to the other midfielders in the squad.

As a result of the lack of currently fit and available players for the central area, Arteta may be forced to rush back the former Atletico Madrid man and this alone could provide some much-needed optimism for Arsenal fans, who are so keen on seeing how the dynamics between a Lokonga and Partey partnership work.

football.london have already reported that Partey was expected to be back in action after the international break as he looks to be named in the squad for the game on September 11.

Here's how a selection of fans on Reddit reacted to the possibilities of seeing their preferred two in action for the first time in this Premier League gameweek.

@smit9891 stated: 'Sambi - Partey double pivot has to be the way to go.'

@myselbsisonfire reckons: 'Honestly, with the way he's been playing, leaving Sambi out would be a crime.'

@RamsayTheKingflayer has predicted the whole midfield and attacking lineup for Saturday: 'Could a 4-3-3 with

'Sambi - Partey - Ode.

'Saka - Auba - Pepe.'

@watabotdawookies wants to see the £50million man used more this season: 'Partey was at his best next to a more DM at AM. We haven't seen the best of him, he has to make up for the defensive frailties of Xhaka half the time.'

A lot of talk from fans on social media during the transfer window was in regards to Yves Bissouma and what he could have brought to the midfield dynamic, but @Leonardo_Liszt has suggested another name that Edu could target in January to help supplement this new project.

He put: 'We couldn't go for someone like Bissouma because he's not good enough on the ball (great dribbler but his passing range is pretty poor and he would suit the football we play), think Guimaraes from Lyon seems like a really good option but I haven't seen enough of him to say for sure.'

However, not all fans believe Partey would work in a midfield pivot with Lokonga if the manager was to opt for the pair and that specific formation on the weekend.

@murrayfromtheblock gave his opinion: 'I just don’t see a single pivot working, not with any of our DM’s. Partey provides nowhere near enough the protection a Kante/Fernandinho/Rodri provides…'
