Arsenal fans make William Saliba point after what happened in the FA Cup final at Wembley

Leicester City celebrated winning the FA Cup for the first time in their history yesterday evening, defeating Chelsea 1-0 in front of 21,000 fans of Wembley.

Belgian midfield ace Youri Tielemans' rocket of a shot was enough to seal the win for Brendan Rodgers' charges, ensuring those Leicester fans in attendance were able to make the trip back up north with a memory to cherish for the rest of their lives.

Tielemans won the contest in the 63rd minute when he rifled home a pinpoint effort right into the top corner from around 25 yards, leaving Chelsea to reflect on a second successive FA Cup final defeat, as they lost 2-1 to Arsenal in last season's final.

Although Tielemans will hog the headlines for scoring the goal that won Leicester their very first FA Cup crown, the Foxes did have goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to thank after his outstanding display between the sticks.

The Denmark international produced two outstanding saves in the second half, the second of which saw him tip Mason Mount's effort away at full stretch when it looked destined to bulge the net.

But it wasn't just the former Notts County and Leeds United goalkeeper that kept Chelsea's attacking contingent at bay, as all of Leicester's back-three played formidable roles in earning a second successive victory over the Blues with a clean sheet in tow.

But whilst Caglar Soyuncu and Timothy Castagne, who was forced into the back-three following Jonny Evans' early withdrawal, were brilliant, it was Frenchman Wesley Fofana that stood out head and shoulders above the rest.

The 20-year-old, who joined the Foxes from French club Saint-Etienne back in October, was nothing short of outstanding. In the first half he produced an heroic, well-timed block to thwart Chelsea ace Timo Werner, before heading away almost everything that came in his direction after Tielemans had handed the Foxes the lead.

It was, without doubt, one of the most assured, cool and composed performances a 20-year-old has produced in an FA Cup final in recent history.

And his performance, which saw him help Leicester secure their first domestic cup trophy since 2000, sparked a debate amongst several Arsenal fans in relation to William Saliba's treatment at the Emirates Stadium.

Both Saliba and Fofana played together at Saint-Etienne and it was Saliba that was considered to be the better of the two in their respective development. However, despite both sealing moves to England, it is, of course, Fofana that has fared much better, becoming a regular in the Premier League, whilst Saliba has been sent out on loan twice since joining the Gunners in the summer of 2019.

But despite Saliba being tipped by many to be the next big thing, an opportunity to impress in north London has never been presented to him, meaning Arsenal supporters have often vented their anger at manager Mikel Arteta for never providing him with that chance.

Now, following Fofana's performance against Chelsea, some Arsenal fans have pointed out what can happen to young players if presented with the opportunity to shine.

Below, football.london has taken a close look at what some Gunners fans have had to say on social media.

As you can see from the tweets above, several Gunners supporters have made it clear about what could potentially happen for Saliba if presented with an opportunity to prove his worth.

The Frenchman is currently on loan at Ligue 1 side Nice, but Arteta has already admitted that he will get a chance to prove his worth ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.

"He will come back for pre-season and he will be with us," Arteta said back in February. "Hopefully he will come back after playing a number of games and his performance raising and his development progressing in the right way. That’s why we made that decision.

"I know that sometimes it’s difficult to explain or understand after the money that the club has spent trying to bring him in, to send him on loan.

"But a lot of things have happened to him he’s a long-term player for us and we need to protect him as well. And giving him three or four games is not enough.

"For him he needs much more than that, because what happened in the last 18 months, he’s been through some personal problems as well that we have to try to help him and stay as close as possible to him.

"And now he needs to play, play and play and enjoy his profession as well. And in order to do that I think we found the right club with him.

"He’s very happy to got there now. Hopefully he can enjoy his football and be ready for us for next season."
