Arsenal fans make surprise Edu transfer demand on deadline day

Transfer deadline day is upon us and it brings an end to what has been a rather busy period for Arsenal, compared to their rivals.

While the majority of the Premier League has been quiet this month, the Gunners have been going about their business and have placed a large focus on outgoing deals.

Sokratis and Mesut Ozil saw their contracts ended prematurely, while Sead Kolasinac will spend the final six months of his deal with Schalke and young defender William Saliba has joined Nice until the end of the season.

Further exits could also be on the cards today, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson among those attracting loan interest.

Of course, it's the incoming business that leaves fans excited and, while the options are fairly limited, Arsenal are still doing work in the market.

A new left-back is Mikel Arteta's priority, and an area that supporters want to see addressed, but when we asked fans who they'd like to sign on deadline day, there were some surprising responses.

Former Atletico Madrid and Chelsea striker Diego Costa saw his name thrown into the ring by a number of supporters, following his exit from the Spanish capital.

The fiery striker is available on a free transfer and has history with Arsenal, particularly the the clash with former Gunners defender Gabriel Paulista at Stamford Bridge back in 2015.

Arsenal's forward options have not been as prolific in recent seasons, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang absent from recent fixtures and Eddie Nketiah struggling to find form.
